OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
The Health Security and Environment (HSE) cluster was established to spearhead WHO's work towards a world that would be safer from several serious threats to global health security, such as infectious disease outbreaks, including pandemic influenza; unsafe food, water and air; polio; and health risks created or made worse by a changing environment. HSE works with Member States to:
- Strengthen and implement the International Health Regulations (IHR).
- Identify, assess and manage public health risks from food, water and air, as well as risks from chemicals, radiation, and emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases.
- Respond to above-listed public health threats and related emergencies.
- Strengthen and develop mechanisms that support national and international detection and response activities. Information management of HSE Cluster is an integrated part of the Executive Office of the Assistant Director-General HSE.
Description of duties:
- Develop cluster-wide information and publications strategies that respond to public health needs and promote the work of WHO and HSE.
- Lead, guide and coordinate implicated staff and activities across the cluster for the effective implementation of the cluster technical and scientific information strategies.
- Ensure information published by the cluster is technically sound, adapted to relevant target audience, and aligned with overall WHO and HSE strategies; including oversight of overall publication planning and review of documents for executive clearance.
- To develop a forward-looking strategy for the ongoing communication of critical information concerning the International Health Regulations to the global community.
- Act as focal point for public health technical issues within the office of the Assistant Director-General HSE, representing the ADG when necessary in meetings and providing expert advice to support decision making and policy setting.
- Manage the information team in the office of ADG/HSE, advising, guiding, and motivating staff, developing and implementing relevant workplans.
- Other duties as required by supervisor.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Advanced university degree in medicine or public health.
Desirable
Training in epidemiology.

Good knowledge of development and global public health issues, in particular those related to Health Security and Environment. Excellent managerial expertise and ability to provide authoritative political advice at a senior level. Proven ability to communicate clearly, on a broad range of issues. Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to understand complex technical documents. Experience on strategy development. Good knowledge of WHO and the UN system would be an asset.
Experience:
At least 10 years of experience in public health at national and international levels including some experience at managerial level in an international environment.Experience in developing information strategies and in editorial review processes.
Desirable
Experience in WHO or UN agency at country level office, particularly with information dissemination, would be an asset.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English or French with a working knowledge of the other language required. An other UN language would be an asset.

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD77,190 at single rate
USD83,089 with primary dependants Post Adjustment: 84.6 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
